College Prep Night Flyer

Hello Homeschool Families with Teenagers!

Family Academy of Christian Education (FACE) has organized the second College

Preparation Night on November 7, 2011.

If you have any teenagers we encourage you to come. Now is the time to start gathering information and preparing. We also encourage your teenagers to come to learn first hand what they will need to prepare for to attend college.

Last year over 160 people attended the event. Please plan to attend so we can repeat this event, with the colleges, every two years. Feel free to invite other homeschool families.

Four colleges are attending:
Colorado School of Mines, Red Rocks Community
College, Colorado Christian University, and Colorado State University.
The colleges will all be speaking at the event and setting up booths to answer your questions and
provide you with printed information.

HSLDA and FACE will also provide several handouts of information to assist your
preparation and search for colleges.

The college speakers have been invited to speak on:

Core Course requirements for their institution

Electives Course requirements and suggestions for their
institution

Determining the right college and major based on our student's abilities

How does homeschooling compare to public high schools, in terms of test scores and reputation?

When and how to strengthen academic weak spots for our unique students
prior to college entrance exams

Entrance Requirements - testing and their timelines, applications, fees,
tuition, etc.

Strong and weak areas, unique to homeschooled students, once they enter
college

electives, lab work, community service

Default GPAs if none are used in the family's homeschool courses

Educational resources offered for students once they are enrolled in courses

When and how to strengthen an academic weak spot(s) once your student is in
college

Best sources for college and financing information.

Sample Questions for Parents and Students to ask:

How should I plan my course schedule so I'll complete them?

Which elective courses do you recommend?

Which AP courses are available?

What activities can I do at home and over the summer to get
ready for college?

Are there any college fairs at this school, or nearby?

Can you put me in touch with recent graduates who are going to the colleges
on my wish list?

Do you have any information to help me start exploring my interests and
related careers?

Transcripts?

Where do we find the forms for financial aid?

Anything else homeschooling families and their teenage students need to
know!

Please come prepared with questions for the speakers.
